Hello everyone,
I hope you are finding my blog interesting. As i said in my last blog in this post I will be discussing about the history of Teen Murti Bhavan.
HISTORY
Teen Murti Bhavan was built in 1930 for the Commander-in-Chief of the British Indian Army. He had the second highest post in the Army. It was at that time called "the Flagstaff House". When India gained independence, the Britishers emptied the place.
Then Jawaharlal Nehru, our first Prime Minister, he accepted the Flagstaff House as his residence. From then it is called the Teen Murti Bhavan.
Jawaharlal Nehru lived there from 1948 and departed the place in his death. In 1964 our new President Dr. Radha Krishnan, ordered to convert the place into a Museum. The Museum was ready in just one year and started on 1st April'1965. Since then, On 1st April, every year an annual lecture is organised named Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Foundation Day Lecture.
Some rooms in the bhavan are recreated like it’s office, ball room, gift gallery and some are still the same and are cleaned in daily basis like Jawaharlal Nehru’s sitting room, study room, bedroom, etc.
Library was first made inside the museum itself in 1966 but with time a new building was made for library in 1974. Now, it is one of the finest library for research. Moreover inside the Teen Murti Bhavan a Nehru Planetarium was made in the year 1984. It was inaugurated by Indira Gandhi on Feb 6' 1984. Following is some picture of Teen Murti Bhavan.

Named after the 3 life-sized statues which stands in-front of the gates of Teen Murti Bhavan. Made in 1922 (made 7 years prior to the building). These statues are made of stone and bronze. Leonardo Jennings was the sculptor. These statues were made to show respect to the brave soldiers of British Indian Army who died in the First World War. These soldiers were Uhlan (Ghursawar), they belonged to Jodhpur, Mysore and Hyderabad. These statues were made when our British Indian Army went to Ifa Africa, fascinated by their skills they made these sculptures.
